Carol Sowande was the CEO of Mary Seacole House for nearly 28 years – a dedicated leader and ambassador who served our community and led the organisation through thick and thin. She retired in October 2023 and passed away in February 2025.

Staff and trustees send their regards to Carol’s family, and honour Carol’s memory and the work she did at Mary Seacole House serving Liverpool’s BAMER communities.

“I am so sad to find out Carol has passed away – I clearly remember in January 2024 at the formal opening day in the Princess Road Mary Seacole House building, when Carol and I hugged each other and we had a catch up.

“I also very clearly remember in the mid-1990’s when I was a volunteer at Mary Seacole House and Carol was new in her post – she brought her energy, wisdom, determination, and compassion.

“It truly was an honour and privilege to have known her and I thank her for her total dedication and hard work over the many years she was at Mary Seacole House.

“I am thinking of Carol’s family and friends at this very sad time.”
